DAB radio interference with iPhone Apple CarPlay

I have a problem that when I plug my iPhone into the Sync 3 USB port and CarPlay starts I lose the DAB radio, it can’t find the station. I’ve narrowed down the issue by plugging my iPad and a mp3 player into the same port and I have no issue. If I disable CarPlay with the phone connected it immediately comes back. DAB reception is good with no phone connected so I don’t think it’s an aerial or amplifier problem that others have reported. I’m thinking this is data transmission interference getting into the received DAB serial data. If the DAB does lock up I hear what sounds like data burbling over the music. Anyone out had the same problem? Any solutions?

    Are you using the same cable when plugging in the iPad? It’s often the cables that cause problems with DAB. But it could just be the charging circuit on the phone that’s doing it. I’d still try a different cable if you can.

    You hit a home run. I tried another cable and it was better but not cured. The cables I have are cheapies off Amazon. Given the alternative cable made an improvement I bought a new short, 30cm, high quality, MFI iPhone cable. It worked. I’ve been for a drive and no interference at all. Thanks for your help.
