2017 mk8 battery issues?

Featured Replies

Purchased a fiesta titanium 2017 1.0 ecoboost from a main dealer a month or so ago.

Been attempting to install a hardwire kit for a dashcam. To cut a long story short, the kit cuts out very soon after the engine is turned off. I assumed it was me being an idiot at first, however I now think it's because the battery voltage drops so low.

I've put a multimeter across the battery after running the car for 100 miles or so and it just scrapes 12v. After being sat on the drive for 24 hours doing nothing, it sits at about 11.6v.

Whilst engine on it settles at about 12.3v after initial spikes in the 14v range.

Absolutely no indications on the dashboard at all.

Anyone offer any advice? Battery issue? Just need charging? Alternator issue? Thanks in advance.

If it’s on the original battery it’s probably just coming to the end of its life. I imagine the hardwire kit cuts off automatically if you have it wired for parking mode, to protect the battery

I had a similar situation in a ford galaxy the voltage quickly dropped off and stopped charging a discharged battery after only a few minutes. It went back to Ford 3 times with no fault found. I plugged in my laptop running forscan and completed charging and battery diagnostics and found a fault where the discharged battery stopped charging after a couple of minutes then after around 20 minutes after the engine switch on actively discharged the already discharged battery to the point it threw up numerous DTC codes. It went back to Ford a 4th time with this data and a new BMS sensor and software updates were applied that fixed the problem.

You need a new Battery !!!

Very similar issue to this and many other threads on here:

Just running the car doesn't necessarily do the trick with modern charging systems, so if you have access to any of the "smart" battery chargers mentioned in the above thread, I'd be inclined to give it a full charging cycle before buying a new battery.
