MK7 Radio issues

Featured Replies

I have a few issues with my radio: (2009 MK7 Zetec with the sync [orange] radio)

  • Radio sometimes does not turn off once keys are removed and doors locked. If I manually turn it off, the display stays on.
  • Display sometimes does not turn on when starting the car. When this happens, the screen remains blank. Sometimes it will come on after 30 seconds. If I manaully turn it on, the time shows as --.--.-- for a few seconds.
  • Bluetooth stutters.
  • Display switched between dim and full brightness. I have to turn off auto-dimming to stop this.

What I have tried to remedy the issue:

  • Disconnect the battery for 1 hour. While it works, symptoms come back once I use the USB drive or bluetooth.
  • Disconnect the bluetooth module.
  • Replaced the bluetooth module.

I am wondering if the software version on the bluetooth module does not match what the radio has and is causing issues? Has anyone else got any ideas because it's driving me mad!

Which model radio do you have fitted ?

If you're not sure then just post a photo of it.

I don't know the exact model name but it's the Sync model pictured below. My next step is to remove the bluetooth module entirely. If this fixes my issue then I know there's either a faualt with the module or the software versions of the radio and bluetooth module differ which is causing the issues.

I doubt it will be a Bluetooth module problem. It sounds more like the power supply or a Canbus fault inside the head unit. They can be changed easily and second hand units are available on e-Bay for around £40

Thanks. Are the head units coded to the car? I noticed when disconnecting the battery it didn't ask me for a radio code and wondered if the radio is tied to the VIN or something.

Just to give an update. A new head unit has been installed and the issue still persists. Does anyone have any more ideas? I'm at my wits end with this!

What is the part number of the old unit your replaced ?

Is the replacement the exact same part number or a slightly newer unit ?
