Strange hoover noise

Featured Replies

Hi guys as per title i got a strange hoover noise its not a whistle it more sounds like a hoover when driving it dont get louder or quieter its just there and when i turn engine off its same noise as when you turn off a hoover. I hope this makes sense to you any ideas please its my first  S max.  NO THERE ISNT A HOOVER UNDER THE BONNET haha.

Thanks guys

There was a system I think called secondary air where extra air was pumped into the exhaust with ‘egi’  (exhaust gas ignition) to light off the catalyst quicker . This used to run for about 90 seconds from startup then stop.

it was on petrol models but don’t know if yours would have it. It was a long time ago.

Could it be the radiator cooling fans?

Radiator fan sounds like a good bet...have you got the air conditioning on?

get it warm and lift the bonnet, stick your head in
