2014 Focus 1.0 Ecoboost - wet belt issue

Featured Replies

Hi

I have the above focus with 98,800 miles on. Friday the oil light come on (flickering slightly). I didnt use car over the weekend and then drove it to the garage on the monday

They stated that i would require engine replacement as oil was contaminated from the wet belt. Another garage (who havent seen the car) after explainginng the situation believe that they could potentially repair this. The car isnt making any noises or rattling etc

I am just after some advice on what is best course of action. If i was to have it fixed i would be selling car afterwards

Either garage could be correct in their assessment, however without a physical examination it would be impossible to make a judgement on whether an engine replacement is required.

I would recommend you don't drive the car any further until the examination is made, or further damage to numerous bearings could occur.

I would suggest you have the car taken to the second garage you mention, have them drop the sump, inspect for the known problem of oil pump filter blockage and take any further decisions from there.

If you plan on selling it afterwards then there is no point in spending any money to get it fixed. What ever you spend you will not recoup.  Just sell it as is, if it needs a new engine which it most probably does then it's going to cost around £3000.
