Humming/Loud Fan noise coming from in car

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 fiesta 1.4 diesel, As soon as I turn the engine on  there is a humming/whirring noise sounds like a fan that is quite loud. The noise can't be heard from outside the car and is loudest in the passanger seat, the noise is still there whilst driving, so I don't think it's anything wheel or bearing wise.

I've had a Google and can't seem to find anyone having a similar problem.

Hoping someone on here can help us out before I take it into the garage :)

Do you have climate control or manual air conditioning? If you have climate it might be the “sampler” which monitors the interior conditions. It’s behind a small grille in the to the side of the radio/hvac control stack.

Hi Bud thanks,

I have air con so unfortunately it isn't that 😕 I don't think it's anything too serious just more annoying tbh haha

Might be the main heater blower fan.  Does the noise change if you change the fan speed on the dial?

Nope the noise never changes 😕 I've disconnected the heating controller and still carries on 😕

Cabin air temperature sensor with fan assembly ?

That’s what I suggested, but I thought it was only present with climate control?

I think it's the fuel pump, I've seen a few videos that have been the fuel pump but none have sounded like this but its coming from the same area as the fuel pump 😕

Does anybody know where the fuel pump is on a 1.4 diesel 3 door ? I know where it is on a 5 door but it's not there on a 3 door 😕

Same place, under the rear seat.  But I'm guessing the 5 door is a petrol?  The diesel doesn't use an electric tank pump.  Just uses a pump housing for the fuel gauge.

I thought your noise was at the front?

So when it's sat cold I can't hear it outside but went out today and had a walk round it and could hear the noise passanger rear side, so got in the back and it sounded like it was coming from the fuel tank and it smelt like crap coming out the exhaust 😕 im so confused hahaha

Can you smell exhaust inside the car?  Or just mean it smelt bad around the tail pipe?

Sounds like you've got a small exhaust leak which will create an annoying blowing noise.

Smelt bad around the tail pipe, I was looking around the engine bay and it seems the joint for the AC hose has sheered so I'm wondering if it could be that causing the problem? Or I just have a load of underlying problems 🤣

Sounds like you've got multiple problems unfortunately lol.

The AC pump won't run at all when the gas pressure drops too low so shouldn't be making a noise.
