Gearbox oil leak

(2004 1.4 fiesta)                                      Hi everyone, I have a gearbox oil leak. I changed the drive shaft oil seal earlier on today, after I took it for a drive I checked and more had appeared. Looks like it’s coming from the black box with the gear selector cables in. Could the seal on the gear selector need changing?

    Yeah, common problem on the IB5 gearbox.

    There is a decent guide thread on here somewhere.

    No.  I would have linked it directly if I did. :laugh:   The search isn't great on here unfortunately.

    I tried fitting the new seal today but couldn’t get it on all the way, after I was tapping it lightly with a hammer and spanner, after I put everything back together it wouldn’t go in to 1st and 3rd. Do I need a different part? Or am I doing something wrong? I didn’t put it in 3rd before I started could that be the reason?

    Sorry to hear that.  I can't really visualise what's happened there.  Hopefully someone else can offer advice.
