Featured Replies

i have put my windows down by the key and they wont go back up and they don't work by the switch's and it wont go back up by the key but I have tried new motors and new switch's and I have looked to see if getting power to them and I am but I just don't know what the problem

Sounds like a GEM issue if none of the windows work now.  You could try disconnecting the battery for half an hour to see if that resets everything.

I have tried that and it didn't work I just don't know what to do with it

And you're absolutely sure there's 12v to the switches and the motors?

Honestly sounds like a blown fuse but can't be if they're getting power.

Yea it has because otherwise the motor would go down by the key and it tries to go down by the key when the motor is off the regular but it dont go up

Ok.  You haven't tested for power at the switches.  We can't just assume there is power everywhere because the motor attempts to move in one direction.  At the very least we need an 'up' switch test.

I don't mean this in a horrible way but I think it's probably a bit above your current skill level.  Best advice I can offer is to get a local auto-electrician out.  They will test the everything with a multimeter to pinpoint the fault.

I have tested power and I have used a power probe as well as a multimeter I also have wiring diagram

But if I didn't have 12v to motor it wouldn't  go down and it should go back up then by the key

It's not that simple on modern cars unfortunately.  The power runs through the GEM and door modules.  I suspect there's a broken wire or loose connection on the 'up' side of the wiring somewhere.  My guess would be in the driver's door loom but it needs to all be tested back from the motor with a multimeter to find the point where it's losing power.

It has power that's the point but if u don't know u just don't know but thanks for your help

Might be a stupid question but have you tryed holding the lock button on the key to see if the windows will go up?

Like most modern cars its an easy way to open/close the windows on a warm/wet day instead off going out to the car. Ford call it "global open/close" (or so i was told when i worked there many years ago).

If you hold the unlock button on the key (like you did) all the windows will go down & go up when you hold the lock buttom tho its strange they all went down but won't go up.

What else have you tried?

I have tried that and it dont work but the unlock to get them down works but not to get them back up

I have tried a new window motor for drivers door and regular that hasn't worked and a new window mater switch and a new bcm

Does the lock buttom on the remote key work?

Try putting the key in the door, turn it to the lock position & hold it in the lock position to see if they go up? You could do it that way aswell as using the key on the mk1 st170's but not sure if it works that way on the rest off the mk1's.

and a new bcm

A Focus 2003 doesn't have a Body Control Module (BCM), it only has a GEM and if you replace that it requires programming for the equipment on your car to work correctly.
