Handbrake play when it is disengaged?

Featured Replies

I’ve had my car in the air for 2 weeks and I’ve been removing rust & painting the chassis.

But now I’ve noticed that my handbrake loosely lifts up and down about 1-2” when it is disengaged. Otherwise it works fine but I cannot remember it doing that before?

Handbrake cables and linkage needs lubricated. Return springs on the drums have possibly seized up with not been used for awhile. It may sort itself out after you  drive it for a few miles, or you might have to remove the rear drums and give them a bit of a clean.
