Front Brake Caliper Carrier Sliding Pins

Featured Replies

The bottom pins are  very sluggish compared to the upper pins. I have thoroughly cleaned out the carrier holes which the pins fit and reapplied the appropriate grease; but this has barely improved things. The problem is the rubber washers which only the lower pins are fitted with.   My local Ford dealer told me that  neither the rubber washers or the pins are sold separately, and that I  would  need  to buy a pair of new brake caliper carriers which cost £500 (or £520). I've tried; but can't find  any non OEM washers/pins.  I am aware that some recommend just discarding the rubber washers and using the pins bare. I have tried the pins without the washer and this certainly prevents the sluggishness; but when I tap the head of the pin it makes a slight clinking sound. Alternatively, I was thinking of using some very fine wet and  dry (400 grade) to very slightly reduce the thickness of the washer so that the pin moves freely.

Any suggestions?

THANKS

I'd just buy a service kit:

Those are not the same pins.  Under the fitment notes it says:

"ONLY SUITABLE FOR MODELS FITTED WITH REAR BRAKE DRUMS (THERE IS A RARE OPTION OF HEX HEAD SLIDER PINS FITTED TO THESE MODELS PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR SLIDER PINS)"

My slider pins have a hex head

My pins look like this

I wonder if you could fit maybe 3 or 4 o-rings in line to create the same effect?

I've been in touch with the ebay supplier and the pins are out of stock at the moment; but they expect to have them in soon.
