Fiesta Clunking

Featured Replies

I think I may have posted something similar to this previously, but I have had various work done on the car, and still can't cure so thought I'd see if anyone on here has any idea what my problem may be.

I have a mk6 Fiesta with 69k on the clock.

Basically when I drive for the first time during the day my gear changes are perfectly fine, smooth and quiet.

I drive around for 10-15 miles and it starts to clunk a bit when changing gear, although only quietly, and just when the clutch engages.

Then I'll stop for a bit, then go to drive again and the clunking is louder, and much more difficult to stop, by bringing the clutch up slowly. I can also hear the same knock/clunk when I just move the gear stick, for instance from 3rd to 4th, there is a definite clunking sound. I can also hear the same clunk/knock sound when I just tap the accelerator at low engine speeds, for instance in 4th at around 1500 revs.

I have gone to Ford who said it was backlash, although I think this may have been at very minor clunking and not as bad as it can be. I've also took it to another garage who have replaced 2 of my mounts as they said they were a bit worn, and to try that. I also asked a guy at work who said that it's just the sound of the gears and all Fiestas make that noise. Again this may have been when it was not at its worst, and also I have to question this, because surely if it was normal operating sounds, it would be like this all the time.

My car actually broke down tonight (coil pack :( ) and I asked about the knock and the guy said it didn't seem normal to him, and my mounts are fine because there is no movement in the engine, so it's not that. He said it could perhaps be gear linkage.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Hi

are you reffering to the ccc clunk when pushing the lever into gear or any noises etc coming from the gearbox (just in front of passenger footwell)

What's ccc clunking? It just sounds like it's coming from the gearbox as far as I know. But it is a noise moving the gear stick (with clutch depressed), as well as when clutch engages. This noise isn't present when you first drive in the day.

Well if that is the case then it needs some adjustment or attention. take it to another ford dealer. dont mention you have had it looked at already and ask them to check it out.

Is some knocking normal on these? I drove my dads Focus earlier and I could hear the same 'knock' when changing gear quickly. It was much quieter, but then the Focus sounds much quieter anyway from inside the car.
