2019 Transit Custom fan blower fault.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

Ive joined your forum to see if anyone has had any similar issues to me with their vehicle.

To briefly explain the fault.
The fan speed control knob regularly does not control the fan speed correctly. There will be a short 1-2 second burst of fan blower then down to minimum fan speed. The lights on the fan speed control knob do not change.

If I select the max cooling or max heating the same happens.

occasionally the system works exactly as it should.

My questions please.

1. I have heard this is a known fault.?

2. Is this diagnosable with fault codes with any diagnostics.?

3. My research online has seen there have been instances where a fan resistor has been the cause?

Any advice would be very gratefully received .

Thanks

A1. Never seen that fault mentioned on this forum before.

A2. With FORScan and the vLinker FS lead it may very well be possible to get a DTC for the HVAC system.

A3. The failure of the resistor pack (older vehicles) causes speeds 1,2,3, to not be available and the fan will only run on speed 4.

Hi @Ecost

Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue?  I am experiencing what sounds like the same problem with my 2021 transit custom.

It would seem that Ecost is yet another OPW.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem as Elliot has, the fan works for 3-4secs when turned to full then goes to slow speed with all lights showing max. I then turn the blower off for 2 mins and back on I then get around 20secs full blower before it goes slow again!! not sure what to check. (2019 2.0)

See my reply above (7th June 2023). Use FORScan and read the DTC's for the HVAC.

BECAUSE, everyone in this thread except me, makes one post and never returns.

Each, like you asks the same question

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

vLinker FS, cable for laptop: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-vLinker-Adapter-FORScan-MS-CAN/dp/B0952P4MLP

vLinker FD, for android phone: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-Bluetooth-vLinker-Scanner-Diagnostic/dp/B08H82WC8L

🤷‍♂️ so yes or no

On older cars the resistor next to the fan would cause this kind of problem....the fan would only work on the highest setting and do nothing on 1,2 or 3 settings....or possibly the motor failing on the actual fan
