Modern petrol vs diesel emissions

I too in this situation would suggest a 'petrol' car, but for entirely mechanical reasons, NOT because diesel is any type of danger! The extremely low emissions now on diesel cars is something even 10 years ago could only have dreamed of.

As for the 'danger to human heath', well, lets see how the mass production of 650Kg lithium ion batteries for battery cars help out for human health...

There is clear proof that even modern day diesel cars are more detrimental to human health than a current day petrol vehicle - soot chuckers should be banned, end off, and, they are by far even less worth having for any reason when doing a low yearly mileage.

I totally agree how the mass production of batteries will help out with human health - so which way should we go?

Can you guide me to a link that will verify this with actual scientific evidence rather than emotion?

Stephen, I am not going to find it for you. I know what I know from engineers who work at Jaguar Cars Ltd and other info that is readily available

But, as said before, I agree re electric (batteries etc) no being anywhere near as "healthy" as it is made out to be

I expected that response. However, I already know the answer, your statement was true, BUT, that was over a decade ago (report released in 2011). Modern day diesels are a totally different animal...

I give mine a saucer of AdBlue every now and then. It keeps the Cat happy 🤣

Yes ban diesels, we will just have to get everything needed to keep the country running moved in some other way.

you got you information that “diesels are a serious danger to human health” from engineers at Jaguar, couldn’t get that in writing could you, some diesel claim lawyers would be interested.

Modern day diesels are still far more danger to health than a modern day petrol, end of

The absolute arrogance you have on this issue is very sad. Though we nowadays see the same arrogance shown by 'extinction rebellion', and 'just stop oil'. Their own intransigent self belief is distressing, and ultimately self defeating when they won't even entertain a proper debate...

I don't have any arrogance, or emotion, about it. Petrol against modern day diesel spec is still safer for our health. It is not my opinion - just what's plastered all over sensible factual places.

I too frequent sensible factual places. I know a guy called Del, who often discusses this issue with his Uncle Albert, who knows a thing or two as he fought in the last war. I heard Del chat to his brother Rodney just last week on the issue. That Nags Head is just full of factual discussion 🤣

You just can't trust what they tell you about petrol emissions. 😉

Euro 6+ Diesel is cleaner than any petrol ever, come and look at my tail pipes, that'll show you.

Which emissions are you considering here?

Particulates are now very low for both petrol and diesel in E6 with DPF's & GPF's.

CO2 is still lower for diesel than petrol (at equivalent CC) - always will be.

NOx is the main issue in built up areas currently.  That's caused during lean running - which is almost as bad on direct injection petrols as it is on diesels.  With E6 diesels using AdBlue that considerably reduces the NOx compared to EGR alone.

Neither petrol or diesel is good for health or the environment.  The ICE engine has had it's day.  Trouble is, we're now in the intermediate period between ICE & battery, and world events have made the progress in that area more difficult as well.  Mining for batteries isn't good for the environment but EV's are better for health in built up areas, there's no denying that.  Ultimately we need hydrogen fuelled cars, but the tech and the infrastructure just isn't there for that yet.

I'm also 99% sure the 2030 ban will get pushed back.  In my 'other role' we see government deadlines getting pushed back by years all the time.

Agreed, it needs to go back to the original 2040
