Hello all,

 

First time posting, so apologies if this in the wrong place.

I picked up my new Ford Focus Titanium Design on Saturday, lovely drive and really pleased with it, but I was lead to believe the vehicle would have FordPass on it, the salesman even told me to download and register the vehicle to the app to speed up handover.

Once in the vehicle, there was no option to activate on the app, the salesman said to try again when I got home, as the app may be experiencing difficulties. Did that, still no good. Called the FordPass line to be told my vehicle doesn't have an active modem. Does this mean one isn't fitted, or it just isn't activated?

I contacted a Ford Master tech friend of mine, who has checked the Ford system and it says VIN not authorised to send data, but there is a Modem Serial Number (ESN?)

I got back on to Ford again and they told me the same, no active modem and to book in with the dealer. The problem is the dealer I brought from is 180miles away, so don't fancy that drive down to be told the salesman was mistaken and the car does not have this feature. 

Can anyone tell me, if the vehicle is fitted with a modem, but it wasn't activated at the factory or isn't a standard feature for my car, do Ford fit the TCU, and lock features behind software updates, and if so can a firmware update enable those features?

Sorry for the long winded explanation, I'm just a little disheartened to be told the car had a feature to now find out it may not have it.

What do you mean by costed out? Like they physically don't install it to save cost?

I guess that is that then. Wish the salesman had told me this before I signed the papers. Inside I was hoping they locked features behind software so I could have grounds to kick back and get them to activate it.

How do they satisfy the requirement for e-call without the modem?

Slightly off-topic but do you know what the 'Design' adds (or removes!) compared to the Titanium Edition?  

Another member posted about specs yesterday but that's the one I hadn't heard of.

They've already done that once with the Titanium Style.  Can't be much left to remove.

Just had a look on Autotrader and the Design does at least appear to have Sync4, reverse camera and powerfold mirrors as standard.

Can confirm it has Sync 4, electric mirrors and reverse cam.

My wife was very adamant of the camera, as apparently she cant use mirrors anymore. (We've had camera on our ladt 3 vehicles)

Honestly, I'd lose the camera for the FordPass connect. Really disappointed afywr being told it had it, to then find out it doesn't.

I just googled TVM as well, didn't know what that meant.
