Can't afford to get my wing repaired, so thought I'd just have a bit of fun... (Commissioned decal myself LOL)

Nothing that can't be fixed with old newspaper, filler and a trip to Halfords!! 😉

You still got the car ? My old Escort MKII looked just like that after cutting it all away 😞 When all the repairs was done I heated up thick grease until it went like water, then poured the stuff into any accessible areas on the inside, did that numerous times to build up the grease to keep out any condensation, after it stopped dribbling out, it was out with spray on underseal, that black stuff, went mad with it, all in a hope the inside will never rust again.

Sadly not! I spent £1500 with a good bodyshop getting it all cut out, new inner arch, new outer arch right down to halfway up the sill and the entire rear quarter repainted and the repair was absolutely spot on. Got me to strip the rest of the interior out and he waxoyled in and out of all the arches, sills, any gaps basically.

Unfortunately, it was all done and dusted about 6 months before Sadiq Khan announced he'd be expanding the ULEZ zone, so I had to get rid - gutting really, loved that car.

It got sold to a lad up north and a couple of weeks after that I am told the auto box let go, so maybe a blessing in disguise. Now SORN'd and MOT expired. I hope it's just being repaired or stored and hasn't been scrapped - after all that work it was 100% rust free, new suspension, strong engine, good wheels and tyres etc.

Heck we got ourselves a 'lovely' Rover 216 Vitesse, be about 1994, it was bang on with every luxury fitted and we loved it, some 8 months into owning it, it needed two new tyres, so nips to the local tyre garage for new tyres, chap jacks the car up on the correct jacking points, car is 6 inches in the air, both front wheels off, next thing there's a loud crunching noise and the car is on the floor, looking like a dragster, tyre fitter shi*tting himself, both jacks had come straight through the floor and ripped through the carpet 🥵 Both sills & chassis & floor was all crap covered in thick underseal.

Only photo of this flippin rot-box which was full of newspaper/cardboard/filler/underseal, most rotten car i'd ever seen, scrapped around 1997, the bodge repairs was so good the car MOTer never even seen the dangerous work and neither did we.

Blimey not many is there now 😮‍💨 Could be a serious future classic because of it's rarity, Metro & Montego Turbo's are going up in value, find a good one in person....You'll be looking for a while.

We saw a beaut' of a white Vitesse last year and was left hand drive, I reckon it's the one in the youtube video.

Many still call the car but we loved ours....It was quick - comfy - all mod cons inside & out - cheap on insurance.....Right up until we found out the entire chassis was rotten to death, learned my lesson the hard way in buying private and thinking the car was in mint condition.

Yes, I remember it as a very nice car at the time and I might well have bought one if one had come up at the right price (didn't know about the rust back then of course!).

Just for a bit of fun I thought I'd try photoshopping your fuzzy image Ian. I can see why you loved it. They were a pretty stylish motor in their day.

I'm sure they don't rust as quickly as my Vauxhall Viva and mk3 Cortina did back in the day.

Thanks for altering the bad pic, looks great now and saved it, the little lad in the pic is my son, he's 31 years old now!

That's why the new Viva is a total sales failure, old people still remember how bad the Viva was, these tales are passed onto the younger generation telling them not to buy a Viva as it's a 💩box 🤣 😂🤣

Remember the old bumper sticker “This is Ford country, on a quiet day, you can hear Vauxhall’s rusting”. 😆

there was also, “ Rust is lighter then carbon fibre “ 🤣

The covered hole on my wing is right at the bottom at the lowest point of the car. My MOT man said it’s a pass if it’s taped over so I’ll be ok if I don’t get chance to change the wings before then ☺️

So my rusty old 2007 Focus managed to get through another MOT yesterday with the ‘getting larger’ taped over holes in bottom of the front wings.

He did warm me that it’s corroding underneath everywhere too and will need a lot of money spent on it to keep it on the road in the future. He reckons 1 more MOT if I’m lucky before then. So the cars got 2 more years maximum now until it’s scraped so I won’t bother changing the rotten wings 😁
