2004 Fiesta - Cooling fan running constantly

Featured Replies

Greetings from Australia,

I have a 2004 fiesta 1.6 automatic with Aircon.

My issue is that once the cooling fan kicks in, either when the engine reaches temperature or I turn the Aircon on it stays on until I turn the car off.

Even when I turn the Aircon on and then off when the engine is cold (ie, cooling fan not needed as engine still cool) the fan runs on.

Note: When NOT using the aircon the fan only comes on when the temp reaches halfway on the gauge so it seems that it is kicking in at the right temperature.

Thanks in advance

you have two relays under the bonnet in a box, one switches on the radiator fan at high speed for the heating and the other one switches on the fan at a lower speed for the aircon, i suspect that the aircon relay has failed

Thanks mate, I've just tried replacing it and still running on sadly.

It could be faulty Coolant Temperature Sensor.

Might be worth flushing your cooling system and replacing sensor and thermostat.

Engine could be a bit hotter than you think.

The sensor will then signal the ECU to switch on the engine cooling fan.
