Will my car be okay?

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a 2012 focus zetec s from sandicliffe. It had 1 previous owner, 44k miles but only 6 services in 11 years. It has had the largest gap of 3 years without a service. I already have my car. Ive had it for a few weeks. It runs well, sounds nice and i check the oil and no sludge. Do you think my engine will last?

I'm not aware of the 1.6 being flagged as a problem engine. Just because the service book hasn't been stamped doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't been serviced.

If you haven't already done so, and the history isn't clear, I would at minimum do an oil and filter change for peace of mind.

The sales guy told me that the previous owner said he didnt service it because he didnt do many miles in it as he was away in his caravan a lot. Within the 3 year gap i think it had done about 17k miles without a service.

Just get the oil and filter changed and then stop worrying about it as long as it runs OK. Maybe have an engine flush as well to clear it out. It should be OK to flush that engine, unlike an EcoBoost!

It is a 1.6 Ecoboost 180 bhp

OK, I'll be a bit more specific. It's not a three cylinder EcoBoost with a wet belt camshaft drive so it should be OK to flush. As far as I know that engine has a dry cambelt but don't take my word for as I'm not entirely sure - best to double check somewhere else.

What about the oil pump belt?

Seems a bit late to be asking after getting the car.

There is no oil pump belt on the 1.6EB.  Pump is crank driven as with the older 1.6 petrols.

The only issues I know with 1.6 Turbo is coolant loss leading to head gasket failure.

Keep an eye on your coolant level.

Just change the oil and filters and you'll be OK
