Fiesta 2009 Not turning over but not battery….

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Can anyone help, so today after driving for an hour without issue I pulled up for a coffee and turned the engine off.

when returning the car would not even turn over, I replaced the battery convinced that’s what it was.

No change, then about an hour later after organising recovery I thought I’d try again and lo and behold no issue!

any advice? Would heat cause it to shut down temporarily?

Were the ignition lights on in the instrument cluster as normal when the engine refused to crank ?

earth strap to gearbox?

Yes, everything else was as normal, just wouldn’t crank.

Things to check are:

  • Both battery terminal clamps are clean and tight.
  • The main earth bond between the battery negative and the body chassis earth point.
  • The earth bond between the gearbox and the chassis.
  • Main battery positive lead to the starter solenoid.

After checking all of the above if there is nothing found to be loose or corroded then the probable cause would be the starter solenoid/starter motor.
