Focus CC3 - Is there any type of guide to the roof?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

In my Haynes manual there is no information for the roof of the CC cars. I wondered, is there any other type of guide somewhere? I need to replace a roof tension cable. This cable is used on both sides and it pulls in the edges of a shelf to allow the roof to pass unhindered. I've attached photos of the new cable I'm awaiting delivery of and also mine which is frayed. It's not a very long cable and one end goes into that pulley on the second photo. The other end though goes underneath into darkness and I don't know how to get to it. If I don't get this sorted before we head off on our holidays I'll be tempted to take that edge of that shelf off but would rather avoid that if possible

Many thanks for any replies

Most Ford dealers won't touch a CC roof, so I doubt you'll find a guide for them.

Can you take a wider angle picture so I can see the direction it's going in?

The new cable arrived last night. Am going out soon to try and suss it out. Will take photos as I'm going as if I get it done it could help somebody else and, if not, it should be of some help hopefully /fingers crossed. From the length of the cable now that I have it in my hands it looks like there will only be a couple of inches hidden

A fair question but one that you're unlikely to get an answer to. 🙁

Hi 🙂 Sorry. It's taken half a year for me to see this reply. The emails were going into my Junk and I just happened to be sitting bored and looked in my junk email folder just now. Yes, I did get it done in the end. It was a horrible fiddly job though. The part I got from eBay for just a few quid. There's nowhere else I've seen where they're available. They do turn up on there quite often though. First of all, I had to have the roof half open to do it. It will go down itself after a few minutes so I did it in stages, top first then bottom with a break between them so I could have the roof open again for a few minutes each time.

The wheel that turns that tightens and loosens the cable I had to drill out the screw in it and put a new screw in because the screw in there is so soft that I couldn't get any driver on it that wasn't stripping the end. When I got it off I found that the problem was in there as the cable was snapping inside. It's made from the same material as the cable that goes up and down in automatic windows and have had a couple of them stripped over the years. That end was easy to change and I put the wheel back on which left me with the rest of the cable hanging there. If you look in my image above where that screw is, the cable then slots in there and tighten the screw which leaves it pretty rigid to work on the bottom part. The bottom part is the awkward bit. The bit of cable there doesn't go far but I couldn't feel with my hand where it ended off and shone a torch down and got no joy there either. Ended up removing that section then it was pretty easy to get to and had to put it back together again. I still have the Focus and the roof cable still works. It wasn't difficult, just took a day because of doing a little bit at a time to be careful not to end up in an awkward position with the roof going down. I didn't mind that though as was a nice summer day. You can buy a metal clamp thing that would keep the roof half open as long as you like so you could do the job all at once but I didn't buy one. Did see one online but it was really expensive.
