Faulty Front Seat

Featured Replies

I have a new 3 door 1.6d Econetic. Has anyone any experience of faulty seat mechanisms. My car has been back to the dealer to have a jammed passenger seat repaired. The seat was in the proper position when the car was returned to me but as soon as I moved the seat forward to allow access into the rear, the seat jammed forward again and at the same time became loose on the sliding rails. The seat is unusable in this state. I am very concerned that the same thing might happen to the drivers seat and if this happened the car would be undrivable.

Any comments and advice would be much appreciated.

Martin

Hello Martin

I personally would log a complaint with Ford Customer Relations.

It sounds like the rails were damaged at the factory or are not installed correctly. IE bent or misshapen etc (not fit for purpose)

Once you have a complaint number go back to your dealer and make them aware that Ford are dealing with the issue and that you are not happy with this situation in a brand new car.

Also as the car is faulty it could be (not 100% sure) grounds for giving the car back.

Don't want to teach you to suck eggs but are you sure its broken? Compared to my eariler MK6/6.5 Fiesta when you tilt the seat in the MK7 it locks in the 'open' tilted position and requires the lever on top of the seat back to be pulled again to release and allow it to fall back into its normal postion. Hope that makes sense and it did confuse me 1st time

Hi Jamie

Thanks for your reply. I have emailed Ford and I am awaiting a response from them.

I'm afraid that the seat is truly locked forward and nothing will encourage it to move into its proper position. At the same time it slides freely back and forth on the rails

Hello Martin

from what you have said it seems that it is doing the opposite to what it is supposed to do.

It is supposed to lock when the seat back is right back and be able to be moved forward and back when the seat is pushed almost flat.

When you are sitting in the seat will it move forward and back without you holding the handle under the seat.

Hi Jamie.

The seat moves freely on the rails without using the bar under the seat but because the seat is locked in a forward position its almost impossible to sit on the seat. I have attached the seat belt around the seat to stop it banging back and forth as the car accelerates or brakes and nothing that I do to the catch on top of the seat will bring it into its upright position

Hello Martin

I have never had a reply to any of my emails to Ford.

You will get a responce straight away if you telephone them.

Explain that the seat will not lock in position and slides about and does not lock.

hi there, my car has done this, exactly as you described probably four times in the three months i have had it, for some reason it rectified itself after i restarted the car.

With all due respect, I dont think this has anything to do with restarting the car that is probably coincidence. I had exactly the same thing, it is an intermitant fault with the actual seat catch at the top of the seat, mine would lock in the upright position and i could not tilt forward, yours has locked in the oposite position. I used brute force on the catch which is not a good idea, but you have nothing to lose. Ford told me the mechanism is in 3 parts inside the seat and the problem is deciding which is the offending part (i.e. they were no help whatsoever.) Mine doesn't stick so often now, i think its wearing in so to speak, due to me forcing it, it'll probably break soon lol
