48v Battery failed

Featured Replies

Driving my 2023 Hybrid, had a warning to pull over immediately. Eventually car stopped altogether. Batteries went flat. Apparently if the 48v drive batteries fail/fault the petrol engine start/run is inhibited so you have a completely dead car. Can’t even jump start the petrol engine to get home !!!

What engine does your s max have. I take you have called out the aa and had it recovered. The petrol 2.5 duratec uses a 500v battery so I'm not sure what the 48v battery version you have is?

Hi,

RAC patrol arrived after 4 hours. Car stuck in middle of road, no power. So could not get brake off and out of park. Patrolman powered car electrically from his truck. He c/o fault diagnosis and said fuel pump/line/system. Said he couldn’t move the car (no pwr) called recovery and left.

Recovery arrived 41/2 hours later !! Connected battery pack, got brake off, into neutral and towed car onto flat bed.

That was nearly 3 weeks ago.

Ford have the car.

First they didn’t know what  was wrong (head scratching) Then they  charged the 12v battery. Then contacted Ford technical. Much head scratching!!! They decided battery technician needed. Very rare apparently!! It was Ford who called the drive batteries High voltage 48volts (personally i didn’t think that was particularly high but hey) 500v makes more sense for high.

No mention of fuel pumps etc mentioned by Ford.

When in middle of road the car would briefly power electrically then I could start the engine, but no drive, then engine would stop.

3 weeks on I get the impression Ford don’t really know either. Technician is on fault finding brief i believe. Had to get car moved from one dealership to another to get the technician. He apparently could not come to the original dealership.
