Mark 4 Focus wheel arch surface rust

Featured Replies

Hi

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced rust forming on the leading edge of the wheel arch?

I was drying down my car after giving it a wash and noticed that rust is starting to form it’s only surface rust but also being an owner of a 21 year old jag I’m slightly paranoid of it after seeing what it turns into when ignored, and I have to say with just 27,000 miles on the clock I’m surprised it’s had enough damage caused by debris to chip away the paint.

Where is this on the car, the picture is so close, I can't tell if it's front or back.

It’s the rear arch close to where the bumper joins up with the body

I think mine has a bit of black plastic there.

I'd have thought a 2018 would too. They usually remove things as time goes on rather than add them

it’s an early focus Vignale and you’re absolutely right about them removing things as time go on, that’s one of the reasons I’m hanging onto it the later 19/20 reg ones had some of the refinements taken away from them.

Have you had the car from new? Has it been repaired previously?

TVM strikes again, these MK4s are so cheap, they're going to be rust buckets like KAs and Pumas (Original)

The OP's car is older than mine.

They fit them in 2019? Perhaps it's the opposite and they realised it would get chipped and rust so added them

I mean TVM strikes again as in there's not enough paint or rust proofing applied

Hi I bought the car with 14,000 miles on it the left side has had some paintwork done to it which I am arguing with Ford about but the right hand side as shown in the picture is untouched that is just something that’s occurred naturally by poor design in my opinion or maybe I’ve got a duff

Maybe but they’ll be great to drive rust buckets

OK. Thought I'd ask about its history as it seems unusual - the bodywork on my Mk3 is holding up extremely well, so I wondered if it was due to a badly done repair before you had the car.

But as other posts have said, manufacturing procedures/designs change over the years.

Manufacturing processes change but I can’t say I’ve seen a drop in quality other than that issue I can not fault the car it’s built like a tank and drives great in my opinion it feels like a car from a class above I just think I’ve been a bit unlucky but it’s good to hear your mark 3 is holding up well I’ve had many people quote the “ Fix Or Repair Daily “ saying to me over the years but I see more Audi VW products on the hard shoulders than Fords.
