Focus RS mk3 OSR door dead

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Been struggling with diagnosing why the OSR door has gone dead on my 2016 Focus RS. Tried different control modules for both rear and drivers door, tried a new door loom but no luck. Checked all the fuses and power there as well. Plugged diagnostics in and shows no comms with the module (U0201).

I have checked the plug for moisture or corrosion but nothing. Unfortunately everyone I’ve seen online has been lucky enough to have the problem here!

I have however found that on the passenger side plug, pin 6 has 8v of power where as pin 6 of the drivers side has nothing. I’m unable to figure out where this feeds from to trace it as it goes under the drivers seat and into the abyss!

Any ideas on where this feeds from please as don’t fancy stripping interior out haha. HELPP!

Broken wire somewhere I'm afraid. I would take the trim out, seats, carpet and console (to save labour costs), put the driver's seat back in and take it to an auto electrician.

Or, if you know what you're doing, trace absolutely every wire from the door connector back (on the body) to the BCM for continuity, when you find the broken wire just overlay a new one

Good luck

Traced back through and goes into the DDM. It doesn’t seem like there’s either a power feed to release the comms signal to the rear module. Unfortunately cannot find a wiring diagram OG what each wire is for the DDM to test properly. Any ideas?

I can give you the Ford wiring schematics tomorrow if you want them

That would be great if you could thank you. Trying to compared the Passenger to the drivers doesn’t quite work as wires in different positions on plugs.

Thank you very much for this. I’ll go through and try marry the cables up. Having a quick skim, it looks like the wire I’ve found it’s a LIN wire. But that’s also me assuming that the plug on passenger side should be same line up on the plug as the drivers

So weirdly the RS has a LHD wiring loom in when it’s RHD.

passenger side compared to drivers side it appears that the LIN wire has around 8v through it. Drivers side has zero. pin 6 on the attached drawing.

I now have a BCM fault with the faults for door ajar and now the lights are staying on when locked.

I’m desperate now and Ford won’t take my car in anytime soon. Any ideas?

Ok finally some success!!

I was right by saying the RS has a LHD wiring loom. However, they feed into the door looms which are RHD.
So for example the VT/BN wire should be on passenger side on RHD but is on the drivers side. This feeds through to the door loom that connects to a black wire then on to a BL/GY wire to the module, which matches up with the RHD wiring diagram.

Having worked out this was a LIN wire with no power and finally figuring out which wire went into the DDM, I found power at the DDM. Tracing this through, it stopped at the plug at the drivers door.

Removed the drivers door loom and when inspected, found just after the the loom enters the door, it’s chaffed and cut through, along with another couple of wires showing.

Just to test it was this (as we all know there’s always something else haha) I put a small join in the wires and rough connected to the drivers door. The magic moment and down comes the OSR window and click goes the lock!

One wire! One wire in the bottom of the drivers door that’s sent me down the rabbit hole of internals of RS wiring..

So for anyone who has a problem with the VT/BN wire on the drivers side, check pin 8 BL/GY wire on the DDM for power. Saves a lot of time.

One new drivers door wiring loom, all put back together. Fault codes clear and the window systems reset. Now have full working windows, door locks and the lights (which threw me a bit) all switch off after locking.

Having seen so many people have the problem and it turning out to be water ingress, I hope this helps the 1% that have the same problem as me and cuts down the time to find the issue.
