Ford Focus

Featured Replies

Hi good morning to all. Can anyone help me out please. I bought a Ford Focus st line 2018 not the new shape but it’s the facelift model. I have had it 1 year and it’s only covered 36000 miles so still new. I only got one key 🔑 with the car from the lady owner as she had lost the spare key. Before she bought the car the other owner had some extra software put on the car that I can not find what software it is as the last owner from her has passed away. I have tried to have a key 🔑 done but was told no way to do it as the software will not let them get into the system. Also whoever put the security software on has stopped the stop start and other issues like I can not turn the light for the service spanner off so comes on all the time saying service needed but it’s had two since I have had the car I just press the ok button and it goes until I stop the engine and then get back in the car. I am wondering 💭 if anyone can point me in the right direction please. I live in Lancashire so if anyone can give me some advice or even help that would be greatly appreciated I will pay I don’t want things doing for free thank you 🙏 for giving me time at reading this thread I have had it hpi and it’s fully clear

Ford can program a new key.

Ford can turn off service warning when you service

Extra software would normally mean a power remap?  Or do you mean an additional security system?

Tried to check what engine etc from your reg but it doesn’t exist, I guess you have it on a personalised plate.

Ford will not touch it as it’s had some extra software put on it all Ford said is the only way around it is a new ecu unit

I see it’s a 1.0 ecoboost with a body kit , big wheels and what looks like lowered suspension. The service light I believe should be reset after each service. I’m not sure of the method but someone here should know.

new keys usually can reprogrammed with Forscan but perhaps some security software might prevent. All I can think is to contact all the tuning companies via the web and see if they recognise the features.

most tuning firms like to leave a label someware, possibly under the bonnet somewhere.

It's an ST-Line, they come with that kit as standard.  (All show, no go, lol).

Sounds like it's been remapped.  I have seen this issue before.  Remappers lock the ECU so you can't just copy thier map and sell it to other people.

Unfortunately, if you don't know who mapped it, the easiest solution will be to replace the PCM with a clean one.

Service reset is foot on brake and throttle, switch ignition on, wait until dash beeps and says 'service reset', then release pedals and switch off ignition.  This procedure may not work with the remapped ECU.

Thanks Tom, that sounds logical.

Hi thank you for your reply the body kit and bigger wheels are standard as this was the last of this model before the new shape. Mine is the st line x facelift model so everything’s that is on the car is how it came when new from Ford dealer ship. Can you please tell me about this forscan can this be used to turn stop start off in the menu am dumb when it comes to cars pal and I appreciate everyone’s reply so thank you to you all

Forscan can't turn off S/S it has to be mapped out

A 2018 car and you are it's 3rd owner. Seems to me the first owner did something to the car got bored and passed it on. Thec2nd owner loved how it looked like but found a problem with it like what you're experiencing and passed it on.

As stated above. Look up all the tuning firms and ask them if they recognise the car (original registration number) and if you manage to find the firm ask their help.

If you don't find the firm and you really want to keethe car then a new ECU is your only option unless you find a very clever auto electrician.

Try Blufin first as they're probably the most popular tuning firm used by Ford owners.

Good luck 🫰
