Is my focus (2013) Safe to drive abs and traction control is

Featured Replies

I jave just completed a four hour drive mixture of motorway and country lanes. About half way through the abs and traction control warning lights came on.
The screen also informed me hill start assist and lane assist are not working.

I am presuming this is a sensor issue.

Big question am I Safe to drive four hours home. I am presuming abs and traction control are not working.

If I am ok to drive should I be modify my driving. Thanks

It would be a very brave person here on the forum to tell you that it is safe to drive your car with a defective ABS system, after all it would fail an MOT test.

Can you drive it home ? Well that is up to you to decide. If it were me and I did decide to drive home then I'd reduce the speeds I'd normally be driving at and give myself at least twice the stopping distance that would be considered normal.

If you use FORScan software and the appropriate cable, then you will be able to check what the problem is when you get home. I very much expect it will be a failed ABS sensor (if I was to bet I'd say O/S front). The car has turned off features like HSA and traction control since it no longer knows the speed of each wheel.

Take it easy... especially if the road is not dry.

but bear in mind that if it is merely that the ABS is not working , there are thousands of classic cars whizzing about relatively safely without ABS or TCS.  e.g. Aston Martin DB6, E-type Jag, TR6.  All capable of well over 100mph.

And also all the cars that most of us on this forum learnt to drive in.

Drive with the knowledge that you haven't got all the safety systems that you are used to.
