Using Forscan after repairs

Featured Replies

New to Forscan, not new to fixing a 1.0 Ecoboost engine 😕

Are the tests and re-calibration procedures in Forscan only required when a DTC is identified?

Example: I replaced a cylinder head and fitted a new cambelt - do I need to do the camshaft calibration routine in Forscan or does the ECU relearn automatically?

Forscan is not showing any DTC's and the engine seems to be running well.

Have a look in the Service Procedures, if there is one for Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Calibration then do that. It should be done also if almost any of the Engine Sensors are replaced as well.

I don't think it is necessary to do anything else like resetting all the Adaptations if the car is running ok, it will adapt itself over time and there has been instances where people have bricked their cars by doing so because of a problem with FORScan at the time for their particular model .

As for having no DTC's I seem to be mistaken!

Don't they say ignorance is bliss?

Best not to read DTC's until you have a fault.

Seriously though, most of those will be old codes.

Regarding the camshaft calibration, that's used after replacing VCT components, not just for a belt change.

I thought I had cleared the old codes using the bin icon but maybe not.

I refitted the original VCT solenoids but all the cam gear is from the donor head assembly.

Who told me I should invest in Forscan .....grrrr

If you go onto the DTC page, at the bottom there's a yellow triangle with an 'on/off' switch icon.  Clicking that should reset the DTC's.

After the work you've done, you could run the camshaft calibration, but if it drives fine and isn't throwing any codes for that then I'd just leave it.

There might be some useful info here

https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15331&start=10#:~:text=PDM DTC B12DC%3A54-2F Code%3A B12DC - Front Window,Motion%2FPosition Sensor Additional Fault Symptom%3A - Missing Calibration

I haven't read it all. It may be that someone in the past has replaced the Modules, but if they both work as they should then I would not bother.

I never bothered about door module fault codes.  Most Focus's I scanned seemed to have one or two.  If they work fine, just ignore them.
