N/S front knocking

Featured Replies

Hi and a massive thanks for letting me join. My problem is I’ve got a front seems like n/s knocking which is terrible on a rough road, replaced NS front leg and top mount, replaced both drop links, replaced NS wishbone and replaced D bushes but still knocking would anyone know any other common issues where I could be missing also it’s been in a garage and they cannot seem to find it which amazes me. Anyway any advice would be much appreciated TIA kind regards Mike

Worth checking that things like the headlight and airbox are tight & solid.  They can make a surprising amount of noise by rattling over rough surfaces which gets transmitted through the chassis.  Battery needs to be held down tightly as well.

Exhaust mounts should be checked though I'd hope the garage checked those while up on a ramp.  Gearbox mount could also be failing but again, I'd hope that was checked by the garage.

The diff in the gearbox can rattle if the bearings are worn but that's not a cheap or easy fix.

Oh also the garage did say the N/S drive shaft bearing carrier was not on, they mentioned if I had a clutch fitted recently and yes I did and the garage said they didn’t put this carrier thing back on so the garage has ordered me one from ford

Are you sure that's what they said?  Usually it's the O/S driveshaft that needs a bearing as it's longer than the NS.

Missing that bearing carrier will put extra strain on the diff though, so diff rattle is potentially the noise you're hearing.  Hopefully it hasn't been like that for long since the clutch change?
