AllanH
My daughter's Ka has a dull thud knocking noise over bumps but it it's bad when you come out of a turn. I'm ok normally with brakes and suspensions so I had check with the wheels off the front and everything seemed ok bar the wishbone bush (see photo). I thought it might be the top stut & bearings someone said the have a floating shocker which sounds more like something you'd see on hols in the toilet. Then someone mentioned poss CV joint outer or inner. As soon as you start to straighten up you here the dull thud clunk and sometimes over bumps. My top strut went on my Megane and it sounds not to dissimilar but the Mégane was knock knock knock over any slight bump this more a knock on turning. Any help will be greatly accepted
Oriskany
Loose wheel nuts or worn drop link / anti roll bar bushes perhaps? Also worth checking the nuts at the top of the struts in case of worn bushes. Good luck.
TomsFocus
That wishbone bush looks knackered. There is still a top mount & bearing on the Mk2 Ka shock.
AllanH
I got it confirmed by a garage the wishbone bush is the root cause of the knocking. I have tackled wishbones before 3 bolts but the mechanic said these and the fiat 500 are a pain in the harris. The front end has to come off before you can tackle them because can't get the bolt out. If this correct and has anyone any detailed videos ?. My daughter simply doesn't have the £400+ to do it. I'd say I'm quite competent with alot of jobs but I've never gone that far into a car front end removal. Any advise would be great Thanks all
TomsFocus
I haven't done it on one of these but this video looks pretty comprehensive. Whole front end sounds drastic but the plastic bumper is mostly just clipped on and then it's just a few bolts for the lower support bar. Nothing heavy or difficult, just time consuming really.

AllanH
Can anyone please tell me the correct torx for the wishbone bolts and the crash bar ?, I shall be attempting it today with the weather been nice
AllanH
I'm abit stuck getting the bumper off. The offside won't come off but I'm sure I have to remove bolts or something. I've took two out but I'm not sure if their the right ones. Can someone please tell me how the bumper unclips from the offside at the top of the wheel arch ?. Here's a pic looking straight up at the top of the wheel arch behind the cover.
unofix
I'd suggest that you get a Haynes workshop manual. It will give you the details of how to remove the bumper and the torque settings for the bolts.
TomsFocus
There are no bolts to remove - they would take far too long to fit at the factory. It's just a push fit with plastic clips. Give the top of the bumper edge a sharp tug as close the wing as you can get and it should release. If it doesn't release, you'll have to drill through those rivets. They actually hold the wings on, but may be pulling the wing too close to the bumper on this particular car.
AllanH
I got there in the end, well I've yet to put the new one in. I got the wishbone out but unlike the videos knocking about this wishbone was stuck in there for the duration. The more you push down on the wishbone to clear the anti sway the more the back slot gets tighter.

I was lead to believe that changing the wishbones on my MK1 1.3 would be easy - and should have been but getting the various holes to align correctly whilst fitting the new parts was a nightmare for me. Good luck.

Good luck. It was for me it took an eternity. I used a long Allen key through the hole. The one coming up from the bottom? wow !! now that pushed me to the brink of madness. I've to do the other wishbone this morning I'm just hoping I don't have the same issues with the anti roll bar I had to grind off. This one's tested me for sure. One thing I noticed was, the bumper clip at the top is knackered. It looks like the previous has cracked it and just botched it in place. Is this replaceable ? AllanH
I finished it late last night and I must admit, that was a toughy. Aligning the wishbone for the new bolts was a pain in the rear. If anyone attempts this the trick to it I found was to installing the wishbone is, Take the two bolts out the sway bar bushing so you've abit more access and push it up say 3-4" Then Put the bolt in first that comes up from the bottom while the other two ends are out. Do not try to put the wishbone in place then push the bolts through as you have virtually no movement what so ever Once you have that one in place tap the other in with a rubber mallet applying a finger full of grease to the side edges of the metal, this helps. I had to grind the bolts off the anti roll bars. The 5mm Allen chewed and that was after been soaked and heated. I took it be tracked so all seems well. I just need to get a flap for the inspection hole in the wheel arch and the bumper mounting bracket and I'm done. I'm not getting any younger so this is about my limit, my back and knees are very sore but when you've not got the money to pay to have it done what do you do ?.

I can't find the rivets from a UK seller but the part number is 1692913. https://www.der-ersatzteile-profi.de/artikel/niete-a2849322 I'm sure any normal rivet will work as long as it's the right size.

AllanH
So I took the car and got the wheels aligned and everything was fine. My daughter drove it for a few days then last night she said there's a knocking noise quite loud, I've yet to test and listen. the only thing that I did while sorting the wishbones was, I put new grease in the inner CV boot. I did this because there was grease spatter around the CV boot not alot. I checked and the boots fine no rips tears but at some point someone had put 2 interlocking cable ties instead of a metal strap over the gaiter. I cleaned everything out and replaced with CV grease and a tight metal strap drove checked and all's well, well till last night and this knocking. My other question is, someone mentioned the front struts are a floating suspension. What's the method to testing if the top strut mounts are ok ?. AllanH
Sorry to pester again but could someone possibly please tell me the correct torque settings for the:- 2 main bolts on the wishbone, the one on the right facing that goes in from the front and the one on the left that comes up from the bottom up, Torque for the anti roll bars, The sway bar bush & bracket, the two bolts that come up from below The 2 crash bar bolts that come up from the bottom that attach the crash bar to the frame and the small stubby bolt that comes in from the side of the crash bar. A friend gave me some torque settings but I'm not 100% sure he's correct. Thanks again for all the help, much appreciated
