Focus st line remap problem…

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, first time positing in here so be kind😂 bought myself a focus st line a few months ago and I’ve now decided to have it remapped. Now reading up it’s fine for the car and the car will be able to handle the boost as it’s within its capacities. The only problem is my start stop function now doesn’t work, I’ve been told to give it a few hours / so many miles and it will restart itself. So I’m just wondering has anyone else had similar happen and if so how long did it take to rectify. I happen to like the start stop feature purely for the fact I get to hear it start up again… sad I know.
thanks

Hi Keiran.

If we had a £1 for every thread on here on that topic, we'd all be very rich.

Just try the search facility on here (or Google) and see how many hits you get!😀

But briefly the usual reason is the battery state of charge is too low and it may/may not start working again depending on whether your pattern of use suits the "intelligent" charging system of the Mk 4 Focus.

Usual remedy for many of us is to periodically give the battery a charge using a "smart" charger, Maypole, C-tek, and Noco being brands recommended by members.

NB you may find some remaps disable start/stop anyway, as does Ford's own Sport mode on some models.

As above Kieran. As for start stop. There's been many a chat about it. Personally I think it's a naff idea and I actually turn mine off. Folk think it's kind to the environment. Rollocks. You burn more fuel starting an engine and there in 'polute' more.

Which remap did you get and for which engine size/power?

If you flick through the settings in your Instrument Cluster it should at least tell you if it has been disabled because the Battery charge is too low. I'm not sure what it says, if anything, for other reasons.

I think what Roger said about some Remaps disabling it is correct.

If it is not the Battery State of Charge then FORScan should be able to tell you why it is disabled as well.

Just re-reading original post - not very clear if you have already had a remap or still just thinking about it? Or indeed, exactly which engine you have - diesel or petrol, 1.5, 1.0 mhev or non-mhev?

On the state of charge, have you checked your battery with a multimeter? As a very rough indicator you need an SOC of 80% or more for S/S to operate. See table below.

While there are approximately 114 parameters for the vehicles algorithm to be satisfied before S/S will operate, the Thompson Ford is somewhat of an unknown quantity 🤣

What so often seems to be forgotten is that the Stop/Start system is designed to operate only when the vehicle thinks it should, not when the driver thinks it should.

Count the number of individual conditions that have to be 'Just Right' in the following video. [Note: there is an error when he gets the symbol for the autohold and the stop/start muddled up]
