Air Con - Sealant ?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently had an Air con re-gas - gas type  R-134a    2014  Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel

Halfords -  stated I have a small compressor leak.

I researched on-line Halfords sell  A/C Pro Super seal R-134a   for sealing leaks.

Has anyone any experience / comments using an A/C sealant type product ?

Some comments state do not use this type of sealant therefore I am interested IF this is a good idea or not and would it work on small leaks ?

Any advice,  thank you.

It might work.  But it might also block up pipework or condenser, and worst case damage the compressor.

If you're sure the leak is from the compressor, I'd recommend replacing that instead of risking any leak-stop.

Totally agree with Tom. A used compressor should set you back about £40. My own was replaced a couple of years back, but as an older car, only cost £20! It's a job for an A/C specialist who is properly trained, A/C gas is poisonous and you shouldn't mess with it. It's a relatively easy swap (I've watched a guy do it!) though obviously it'll need recharged after...

Interesting. I took my car to get the aircon regassed but they told me All the gas escaped within 10 minutes. They couldn't source the leak. Now I find that strange (for want of a better word) because a dye was used but they still couldn't find the leak.

Anyone know a good aircon place around the Rochdale Oldham area?

Mk3's regularly leaked behind the dashboard so not visible...or easily repairable.  Gave up on mine.

Next step is to pump Nitrogen through the system to see if you can hear the hiss and pinpoint the leak by ear.

Also worth checking the Schrader valves weren't damaged.  They can be swapped out easily if so.

Ah. Leaks behind the dashboard. Would that be the same on the face-lift Mk3.5's?

Yes.
