Instrument cluster light stays on

Featured Replies

My stereo has just died on my Ford focus 2010 titanium and now the instrument cluster light won’t go off. I’m now worried that it will drain the battery. If I disconnect the radio from the car will the light then go off?

Go back to your car after 40 to 50 minutes, your instrument cluster backlight will have turned off. No, I have no idea why it was designed like that, but when I 1st got my car, it concerned me too...

The load taken to illuminate that tiny LCD display isn't enough to drain a battery. If your battery does go flat, there is a drain originating from somewhere else. Check you cluster again in a while, as long as nothing on the car is touched, it should enter sleep mode...

Thank you so much. It’s only seem to be since my stereo died earlier that the light doesn’t go off, so strange.

When you say the stereo died, did it just cut out altogether?

It's possible that something has shorted out and is keeping the GEM awake (which will drain the battery overnight).

If you need the car in the morning, it might be safer to disconnect the battery for tonight and reconnect it tomorrow.

It was working then I went in supermarket came out and started up then the radio just didn’t work

If I remember correctly, there were instances of Bluetooth connectivity was causing the cluster to stay live searching for connection. If yours has Bluetooth, try deleting all the Bluetooth devices.

other than that , the common faults of the dry solder joints in the instrument cluster or  water and corrosion at the BCM  worth checking.

Thank you for the tips on the Bluetooth

Hi there. Sorry to resurrect this but I’m having exactly the same issue with the same car. Tried disconnecting the Bluetooth module but no difference. Someone above suggests deleting Bluetooth connections but you can’t do this if the radio won’t come on. Any help greatly appreciated

If the stereo doesn't come on you're probably only left with the option of pulling it and unplugging it.

Very easy on Mk2.5.  Just 'peel' the stereo surround off, starting at the bottom.  Then the radio is just screwed in behind there.

Try the easy fix first.

Disconnect the negative lead from the car battery and leave it off for 20 minutes.

Then reconnect it. Do not switch the ignition on. Wait 5 minutes and then give it a try 👍

Tried both of these options left battery off over night didn’t change anything. Think I’ll unplug radio again and leave an hour and see if the Bluetooth unplugged and the radio unplugged works may as well disconnect battery again for an hour as well while I’m at it. image.thumb.png.9b5eb3be803dba704803ecd5d502013b.png

Right

Bluetooth disconnected

radio disconnected

battery disconnected

I’ll wait 1 hour and reconnect the battery

then wait 5 min

start engine for 5 min

switch off

wait 1 hour and see if the light goes off 🤯🤯🤯

Read on something it could be the ignition switch with it being keyless would this be the push button ??

No, the button is just that it's just like a door bell push.

You need to use FORScan and see what (if any) DTC's are being logged.

Well that seems to have worked. 🎉

just re connected the radio (still doesn’t work) will wait an hour and check again. Hopefully the battery disconnect reset the system. If not I’ll disconnect it again and get a new one off Amazon with Apple car play.

don’t have FORScan will look into it.
thanks for the advice guys

Light off again. Time for new head unit I think
