2.0 TDCI - 140bhp vs 163bhp engines

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm outing my '08 Galaxy, 2.0 TDCI 140bhp version, and replacing with either an S Max or a Mondeo estate.

I'm sticking with the same capacity (I'd like the 2.2 but I wouldn't like the fuel bill), but wondering about peoples experience of the two different outputs.

My Galaxy feels fairly urgent in it's power delivery. Throttle response is reasonable, it delivers it's torque well and fair surges forwards for a vehicle approaching 2t with only 140bhp.

I drove a 140 version of the S Max, and it felt pretty similar. However, I have driven a 163 S Max and a 163 Mondeo, and although I'm sure they were ultimately quicker than the 140, they didn't feel it. They felt smoother, but the urgency was gone, they just didn't feel as torquey or as aggressive in the power delivery.

Is it simply the same engine with a different state of tune? Is this others experience of them?

Thanks in advance!

Jamie
