10 yr old Ford - Would you choose Powershift or manual?

Featured Replies

If you were looking at a 10yr old Ford, prob 2.0 TDCI, would you choose manual or Powershift? And why?

I always opt for manual, prob cos I fancy myself as a bit of a driver, but I have always been wary of the longevity of auto boxes.

Is the Powershift box a good unit for a driver, and a reliable one or problematic?

Cheers

Don't buy a Ford automatic.

That's all I can recommend

Hi Jamie. You'll get two sides of the coin no matter what.

My experience of powershift is All Positive. The 2 cars were both mk4.5 titanium x sport mondeos. One Ecoboost and the other the 2.2 diesel. Yes I looked after them and had them serviced as per schedule if not sooner. I drove those cars both gently and hastily. I never had any issues.

Unfortunately you'll hear many horror stories but all I'll say to that is owner negligence because the gearbox service 7ish years ago was £350. I suspect that price put many owners off getting the service done.

By all means go for the powershift but make sure you see documents that gearbox services were done.

A 10 year old car should have had 2 services at least dependent on mileage as the interval is 37.5k miles or 5 years which ever comes first.

Wouldn't one have been a 6F35 and the other an AISEN?

Can't remember Dave. Both were great smooth responsive boxes and behaved very very well when taken easy or really hard which was quite often.
