Hi, I live in Poole and I would value your advice. On a recent service I was notified of the following: new cam belt, tensioner and water pump required @ £1,738. Listed as red immediate attention.

Also seatbelt o/s/f frayed @ £413 and rear suspension axle bush worn @ £147. In amber attention in near future. Is Ford asking too much or are they fair prices.

Thank You

The replacement cam belt is about the right price for this engine. It’s a big job usually takes 2 days, engine out or significantly dismantled.

Was this Foray (English Ford) in tower park? I’d also phone around Keith Motors, Chesil Beach, WBM and St Michael’s to compare prices if it was me. Might be worth travelling if it saves a few hundred, although they are probably going to be similar as they usually price based on the recommended hours from Ford.

I think it was St Michael’s that did my relative’s b max cam belt.

Just remember they are all franchises so it can be worth shopping around. And also don’t put the cam belt off, if it starts to deteriorate the engine is toast.

A second hand seatbelt can be sourced & fitted for much less than £400.

Some people don't like the idea of second hand seat belts so it's your choice.

Rear bushes are a pain to change.  It's the labour that makes them expensive.  You may find a local independent willing to do them at a better price.

I had a seat belt rewebbed by these guys.  Took it out of the car, took it to them, went for lunch, then picked it up and came home ! And about a tenth of that price !

Yes you're right Tom, although the same people who 'would never buy a second hand seat belt or tyre' strangely never seem to give it much thought when they buy a second hand car full of second hand parts !! 🤔
