Ford Ranger strange issue

Featured Replies

So I have a 2019 ford ranger limited 6 speed manual uk. It has 15k miles on it and has been perfect since I had it.

Went on holiday for 3 weeks and left it at the airport.

Upon returning it started first time and I started the drive home. About 1 hour into the trip the car went dark. The satnav screen went black radio went off all digital dash went off and the speedo needle just sat at 60mph. My indicators and full beam do not work but my head lights and break lights do. The car will start and drive no problem but zero electrics on the dash.

Also the needle is still sat at 60mph when the car is sat on the driveway. I have disconnected and reconnected the battery after 2 hours and the battery reads 12.7V.

Ran diagnostics and got these codes IMG_6237.thumb.png.d3398e8ecf360f3dc567351ced042b22.pngIMG_6236.thumb.png.d4142c6d1333445ba77b8ccd29ad0491.pngIMG_6235.thumb.png.9c02518f8728cba6e4f321e2481be77f.png

Any ideas?

Things are probably nowhere near as bad as they look.

You really need to use FORScan on a windows laptop to get the full diagnosis and all of the Ford specific DTC's. From the information you have virtually all of the codes are "Ux xxx" meaning communication faults on the canbus system. This could be a short-circuit or an open-circuit or even than the module with the end of line resistor in it has become disconnected or gone faulty.

Ford use 2 canbus systems, a High Speed, and a Medium Speed. Using a digital meter you can check the resistance of each of the canbus systems on the OBDII port. The correct resistance for each should be 60 Ohms.

Using FORScan may also identify that you have a fault with one of the wheel speed sensors, if so it will tell you which wheel.

Just checked the canbus and the resistance was 59ohms so I’m guessing that’s in tolerance? I will have a look at forscan and see what it says

Yes that would be fine. Did you check both the HS and MS canbus systems ?

Yeah I did. Just taken the car to a garage who has plugged it in and said either the pcm or bci has gone. But they can’t fix it only ford has the license or something…
