Main lights only on when switch is off

Featured Replies

My 2014 fiesta main lights, come on only when switched off, when switch is set to on main lights, gone off and side light comes on, have changed the selector switch for the lights, still the same, not sure what to do next, any help would be great, thanks

Has this followed any other unusual behaviour with the car ? A jump start or a new battery ?

Assuming you have not got auto lights, and that the selector switch replacement was an identical new unit, I might be looking for a very poor earth somewhere around the switch circuitry.

Luckily I have only old cars, but if in yours, lighting is controlled by an electronic module of some description, I would disconnect the battery for about 20 minutes, then reconnect, thus effectively rebooting the system.

Keep the forum updated with any progress.

Some Fiesta didn't have LED daytime running lights and I think you may be confusing the daytime running lights for the main headlights.  Have you checked/changed the headlamp bulbs to see what happens.

Many thanks Paul, it might be the bcm unit, will disconnect the battery and try that first.

The main lights is on with the lights switched off, when you turn the ignition key, thanks

Then they would be "Day Running Lights" and they are designed to come on when the light switch is off and the ignition is on.

Does your light switch also have a position for automatic ?

Hi, no lights on when switch off, turn light's on it goes to side light. The main lights are only on with switch in off position, no main lights when driving, if you turn off lights the head lights come on, but rear lights are off. Hope this is a little clearer. Thank you

I agree.

The side light and DRL, on a non LED DRL Fiesta, is a combined unit on the inner of the headlamp, next to the grille, a shared portion with the High Beam.

Try explaining a bit better what is going on

Main Beam is High Beam

Low Beam is Dipped Beam

With Engine on, on a non LED DRL Fiesta:

Switch Position 0: Inner lights on bright

Switch Position 1: Inner lights on dim

Switch position 2: Outer Lights on Bright with inner lights on Dim

Switch position 0,

Low beam dipped On

Rear side lights Off,

Turn switch position 2,

Low beam dipped Off,

Rear side lights On,

Dipped beam on when switched position 0, but have no Rear side light is Off.

Thanks

Can you please add a few pictures of one of your headlights along with what position the switch was in at the time it was taken.

Thanks

Possible BCM issue or someone could've been playing with FORScan and activated Scandinavian mode (Dipped headlights on in Pos 0)

Position 0 correct

Try some new bulbs for the outers, H7s

The light circled is the main light and should be illuminated with the switch in position II. As DaveT has said try some new bulbs.IMG_20231013_112914.thumb.jpg.f368952cc55453707c76cd549877b13b.jpg
