Why won’t the heater blow sufficiently hot air?

Featured Replies

As a driving instructor my car is running for up to Two hours at a time. However the heater/ blower just doesn’t blow anywhere near hot air, it’s barely warm. It’s a 59 plate Titanium.

any suggestions please as to if this is a fault or how it can be changed. With the mild and wet weather now the screen is constantly misting up and without sufficient heat is a ***** nightmare. Please help.

Thermostat may be stuck open.

You can use the air conditioning to keep the windows clear if it works.

What model ?

Your profile gives no clue to the model, or engine.

Thanks Tom, yes I’ve tried that. The issue is it blasts out cold air so with it being difficult to get the cabin temperature warm it’s then being rapidly cooled again. How could I check if it’s a stuck thermo?….

You need to read the actual engine temperature.  The dash gauge isn't accurate.

The thermostat should open at around 82c.  If the engine doesn't reach that temperature then the thermostat is not working correctly.

PS - Still didn't give the model above lol.  I take it it's a Fiesta?  And petrol?  1.4 could be either petrol or diesel.

Sorry, Fiesta and petrol.

OP just failed his driving test 🤣

Definitely check for a stuck open thermostat

Ok, the petrol's usually provide more than enough waste heat to keep the interior nice & warm.

So as above, first thing to check is the actual coolant temperature.  If that's reaching a good temperature of ideally 85c+ then we can move on to other potential faults, but if the heat isn't in the coolant to start with, the heater will never get warm.
