Random warning/error messages and spanner symbol

Featured Replies

Hi, please can you give me some advice ... I've got a 19 plate ford focus estate which I've had for 6 months. It is regularly coming up with various messages such as "pre-collision warning not available", "brake applied - power reduced" and "hill start assist not available". It seems to be running fine but I'm worried about these messages as I'm due to go on a long journey at the weekend. I've booked it in for a service at a non-ford garage next week. does anyone know what's wrong? and if it's safe to drive a long distance? Many thanks.

Is the battery performance good?

May need a new battery, if not a software update in the camera (IPMA) is required

Get a multimeter and measure the battery terminal voltage approximately 1 hour after it has been parked. I suspect your battery State Of Charge is very low.

You should charge your new battery for 12 hours before fitting it to the car. Once it is fitted remember to reset the battery monitoring system (BMS).

Hi, please could i have a bit more advice ... I've been to have a new battery fitted and whilst they were doing that they said my coolant was low so I've brought some of that and I've been told to put it in when the car is cold. The warning signs and symbols are still coming up ... do you think it's the low coolant and so will go when i've put it in? Many thanks.

No, the warning would say "low coolant"

Oh I wonder why I'm getting those messages ... any idea?

If the battery change didn't stop them it's probably an ABS sensor or brake switch.  Will need the fault codes read with a Ford specific reader.  Generic reader at a non-Ford garage is unlikely to read the hidden codes.

Mechanically it should be safe.  Just bear in mind that some of the modern safety features won't work in an emergency situation.

Personally, I would try to get the fault codes read before making the long journey if possible.
