Focus ST MK4 - Sync 3 upgrade broken B&O sound quality

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've recently purchased a 2019 Focus ST MK4 Diesel, and a couple of months in I've decided to do an OTA update of Sync 3 via WiFi, as it looks like it hadn't been updated since new.

Following the upgrade the B&O sound system now sounds awful - muffled with muddy bass, and all the punch of the tuned system has gone.

I've never used ForScan before but I've hooked it up and had a look at the ACM and DSP settings as they are, but I wouldn't know what they should be, and don't want to mess it up further.

Would anyone know where to start with reverting it back to how it was, other than taking it back to the dealer? I'm kicking myself for updating, as I'm seeing no difference - other than the sound problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Andy

It won’t have made a difference other than probably resetting the sound settings to default . Just go through the sound settings on the screen, there is a shortcut button on the left on the row under the screen and you should be able to get it back as it was probably customised before.

I find having surround on, adaptive off and -2 on the treble works for me.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply!

I had a play around with the audio settings, but it was either too muddy or too tinny no matter what I tried. Turns out I had exactly the same settings as you, though (the surround makes a big difference).

Then I saw options to reset the ACM and DSP modules in ForScan - did that, had a quick run round the block and it's all back to normal again! Glad I had an old ODBII connector lying around.

My guess is the B&O kit had lost it's connection during the upgrade, and it all needed a reboot? Probably would have sorted itself over time, but I'm too impatient...

Thanks again!

Locking the car for 20 mins can reboot the modules too or disconnecting the battery for that time if you really need to force it.

At least it’s fixed!
