Gearbox drain plug

Featured Replies

Hi all, I planned to change the gearbox oil during a service of my wife’s car today, however I removed the passenger wheel expecting to set eyes on the gearbox fill and drain plugs but couldn’t locate them. Any ideas?

There isn't a drain plug on the IB5 gearbox.  It's sealed for life and maintenance free.  (According to Ford)

You'll see plenty of people online pulling the detent bolt at the front as if it's a drain plug but that can cause gearshift issues if not refitted perfectly.

Thanks Tom,

I did see this mentioned somewhere, it also mentioned removing a drive shaft but I cannot see how to fill the gearbox back up if I was to do that. The reason for wanting to replace the oil is the gearbox has a slight whining so thought this was a cheap thing to try.
thanks for replying.

Think the process with removing a driveshaft you’d then fill the oil through the middle of the driveshaft oil seal, probably till the oil came out of the hole indicating it was full
