What do you think of this noise near alternator?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Been getting this noise https://youtu.be/GrNdwjEI1Rk?si=3tgq_mA67LOpi5oq

Deffo sounds like it's coming from the alternator itself, bearings or belt maybe?

Anyone have this issue in the past or seen this in experience?

Ford 2009 Zetec 1.4 petrol

Thanks in advance

Kind of hard to tell from the video, it could be from the alternator, or it could be from the water pump.

With the engine OFF.....

Take the auxiliary drive belt off and turn the alternator, and the water pump by hand and see if you can feel any tight spots.

As above but you could first try getting hold of a Long screwdriver. Place the sharp end on the alternator and the handle end to your ear. When the engine is running the screwdriver acts like a stethoscope and if you hear a deep loud rumble then you know your alternator is shot.
