Alloys for my 1.25 1998 fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi all

I've got 1.25 fiesta 1998 with 13 inch steels on.

What alloys will fit my car.

13 inch steels are comfortable ride but impossible to get tyres.

Looking for advice on reasonable price upgrade alloys or steels that we fit and not cause damage to my car

Thanks

Claire

I'm not sure what problems you're having getting 13" tyres, they are amongst the most common size around for many cars.

If you want to change to alloy wheels then on your model you are still going to be looking at 13" or 14" wheels. You can get some decent wheels on the likes of eBay and cheap prices, but mostly you will have to collect.

For example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266461498108

Straight fit 14" alloys would probably be either the 4 spokes or the 7 split-spokes

FWIW - I can't remember the last time I saw a 13" tyre!  May have been common 20 years ago, not nowadays.

🤣 you need to get out more 🤣

True they are not as common as they once were but still plenty of offerings to be had by many suppliers.

I'll be keeping an eye out for any now.  Even the supermini's (Ka, Aygo, Up!, etc) all use 14's minimum these days.  106 & Saxo used to have 13's.  As did the original Mini.  But I'm struggling to think of much else post 2000?

I did have a 1997 306 with 13s, but they were a source of giggling even then!  14s were common, with 15s on sport models.  I did 'upgrade' to the GTi-6 15's of course.  Looked ridiculous without lowering though.

You may be right about tyre availability though.  Perhaps it's the specific size of these particular ones that are rare?

Yes I think your right. The days of 13" wheels seems to be over. All my Escort Mk2's had 13" wheels and that seems like only yesterday 🤣

Yes, it would be helpful if Claire could confirm exactly what she has now. Assuming from the steels it's a lower spec so I'd guess 155 or 165/70x13 which seem pretty plentiful from a quick search.

Oh dear, it sounds like you have early onset nostalgia, from which I suffer badly! This is why I enjoy seeing the odd rally with a historic class - loads of Mk1s & 2s fitted with 13" minilite wheels to alleviate the symptoms!😀

In this "Who had the smallest Wheels" competition, my first Escort Mk1 came with 12 by 5.50 crossplies IIRC

Nostalgia outbreak now! BLMC Mini owners can of course beat that with 10".😀
