Brake Discs

Featured Replies

Hi,

Would these brake discs need replacing?

Look to buy a fiesta for a first car for my daughter and the 2022 MOT had an advisory for brakes and discs but the recent 2023 MOT passed with no advisories, however they look heavily marked and lipped at the top which would suggest they haven't been replaced recently?

Also is it difficult to see the brake pads on 2009 onwards fiestas, ive been to look at a couple now and struggling to see any of the pad between the disc and caliper (first pictures), not sure if this is down to not having much/any left or it is difficult to see without taking the wheel off (one seller said you cant see the pad depth on fiestas but not sure if hes bluffing me)?

Any advice please?

To see both inner and outer pads, the best way is to remove the road wheel.

You might be able to see on a four poster, but I doubt if you have one of those in the garage.

One thing I do anyway when buying a used car, is to remove the roadwheels, do a visual inspection of suspension etc, then copaslip the mating faces between the hub and the wheel, replace and torque up to correct value.  Then you know you can remove the wheels if you have a puncture....

They do look rough but as long as they're within thickness tolerance they'll do the job.

MOT advisories are entirely down to tester discretion.  There is no requirement to list any at all.
