I hate Sky...

Featured Replies

I noticed this morning that Sky has sucked £49.95 extra from my current bill. On checking the 'My Sky' app, keeps coming up with error that 'Im not authorised to use app'. (Only been with them 30 years). On trying their web site, get the below error. Then on trying to call them, eventually got a recorded message stating their system is down, and to call back tomorrow! On checking my account via my sky box, it appears they have charged me for a replacement router and P&P totaling £49.95, which was absolutely 100% agreed on the phone call at the time last month to be FREE! So, they've broken their word, and leave me no way to tell them I want my money back. It's a bit dystopian when you cannot contact a large company anymore.

Yes, I hate Sky...

mmm... as stated, when you call, you get a recorded message to phone back tomorrow 🤣

Really?

Cancel DD, they'll soon call you

£50 for a router?  Makes me wonder how they make any money on cheap 12/18 month contracts with free routers?

As it happens, I'm in the process of switching supplier myself.  I had the opposite issue, my current will only use telephones, which isn't accessible for me.  (I didn't realise before joining).

The price would have doubled at the end of the month when my contract ended.

I made a slight error with the new supplier though, forgot to give them the date of transfer, assumed they'd be able to see the end date of the other contract (they're both part of the same group) but that wasn't the case.  I managed to change the new start date easily via the online portal, but I was still concerned my old supplier might cut-off early.  Cut-off date should have been today but it seems to be working so far...still a good few hours to go though! :ermm:

£9.95 was P&P, and the £39 router charge was for a previous model that is now discontinued, but more than enough for what I need...

Have you returned the old router?

Companies 'lend' you the router for free but want it back when you've left/upgraded etc

It's faulty - they didn't want it back...

Is that a new thing?  I got left with a Sky, Vodafone & TalkTalk routers over the past few years.  Sold one for about a fiver (not worth the hassle) and ended up recycling the other two.  Will return the latest one if that's an option...

Tom, I have 3 x old redundant Sky routers, I also sold a couple on Ebay a while back. Sky don't want the hassle of dealing with junk, though it makes them feel virtuous about being, 'green' if they ask for them back.   If it eases your conscience, just toss it in a local recycling bin. Don't spend any 'air miles' shipping it...

Have you tried finding a web chat option? Screenshots of their staff telling you you’re right always helps.

OK, web chat is 'unavailable', app 'unavailable', phone unavailable (call back tomorrow) I finally found an option to send them an email, I may hear back sometime next month...

Oh, forgot to mention, they have the most rubbish AI virtual chat advisor online I have ever encountered!

Sounds like my local medical centre since the pandemic happened.

UPDATE...

Got a response to the email I sent Sky which was really quick, less than 24 hours.

They are now refunding in full the £49.95 which will be applied in my December 2023 bill.

OK, me hating Sky has now been reduced to a healthy 'dislike' 🤣

Couldn’t find an appropriate thread for this.

Do you need easy access to your battery?    ...then buy Ferrari😄
