Fuel pump pulley alignment on timing belt change

Featured Replies

Hi all

Suffering from dreaded too tight timing belt issue while trying to fit a new one to my 1.5 TDCI, the only way i could crack it was by using the fuel pump pulley as a sort of capstan to tension belt from crankshaft pulley, creating enough slack above to allow me to inch it further over camshaft sprocket, a tooth at a time  until it finally slipped under the idler pulley. Only trouble is that means the fuel pump pulley flange has now moved clockwise  past its locking pin alignment. Does this matter - and if so, what should i do about it? Haven't tensioned belt yet so there's probably enough slack to allow me to rotate fuel pump pulley back anticlockwise into locking position to allow final torque up, etc,.

And talking of which, |I wasn't able to get anything like 190 degrees of added angle on the crankshaft pulley, even using my longest breaker bar and extension, About 45-60 degrees was best i could manage. Again,. does it matter.? The bolt is damn tight as it is...
