Ford Focus Mk4 Auto Engine Misfiring

Featured Replies

Hi to all that have this apparent normal (according to dealer) misfire when doing under 30mph. Since I bought this car it's been misfiring when doing under 30moh. The dealer has checked absolutely everything from re mapping the gear box to ECU full check for faults. None appear. So I've been trying a few things myself. Firstly I bought a bottle of Sea Foam fuel additive. Excellent stuff and the best you can buy. Now this did help a little after some 50 miles. Noticed considerable difference but still the misfire was there. Then tried this...... I started my journey whilst the (choke) was still on. Revs at about 1200. Drove the car as normal between 25 —30mph. And folks the misfire has miraculously disappeared. Called the dealer service manager and he's dumbfounded. Can't say anything as it's the first he's heard of it. So result folks. If you have the same problem try my workaround. Cheers.

What engine have you got ? and what year is it ?

He has a 2020 1.0 ecoboost Unofix.

Les. You stated you used Seafoam and called it the best. Oooooooh bone of contention there lol. CRC is as good if not better from what I've read.

How many miles on your car and gave you had it since new?

I can't imagine your car having that many miles to have caused carbon build up in the head which has been known to cause a misfire.

The 1.0 ecoboost has a bad 'press' because of numerous failures.

Hopefully you'll get back to answer.

Going off your forum name I'm assuming your a lover of ProgRock. Excellent. I love the stuff.

Hi Tazman. Thanks for the reply. Had it at 8000mls. Now done 11000. Dealer couldn't work out what the problem was even after driving. It seems the fuel Additive combined with 99 octane fuel has done the trick. I myself can't figure out what was causing this very tiny misfire. It was only very slight but I could feel it. Almost like fuel starvation. Other than that the car's a gem. But I have to say driving it whilst still in choke mode works as well.

Yes love prog. My favourite...... Dream Theater. Then Flower Kings then Neal Morse then Spock's Beard. Cheers.

Definitely stick to the 99RON Fuel

Tesco is very good and a lot cheaper

Just to add, I'd be tempted to stick some new plugs in, just in case you've got a dodgy one

Yep was thinking about that also. Iridium plugs however are flippin expensive. Any other one's available??

They're not that bad.
