Noko 5 Genius

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

A gig hello from me.

I was wondering if anyone could advise me please.

I have a Noco Genius 5 Battery Charger, and was wondering which mode to use to charge up my Mk8 Fiesta Vignale.

I see there is AGM mode is this what I need to use, I haven't had chance yet to see what type of battery I have yet.

The car has stop start.

Does anyone have the options based on possible types of battery I may have please.

I thought I should charge up the battery, my dealer made an adjustment which will alter the voltage threshold to keep start stop working longer, I hardly use my car these days so naturally it's losing charge, and fordpass app constantly tells me it's in energy saving mode.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Hi Steve,

Do check, but you probably have an EFB battery for which the basic 12v mode is fine. If you haven't got a manual, you can download one from the Noco site:

Hi Eric,

Thankyou for the reply with help.

I have the manual already thanks and unfortunately wasn't able to find which mode I should use as they show just basic 12volt mode or AGM.

I think perhaps I need to go out tomorrow in decent light and check my battery type.

Thanks again. Have a great weekend

The "How to Use" page in my manual (and the one online) state basic 12v mode for enhanced flooded (=EFB).

Thanks, I guess That's ok if it's EFB battery

Yeah EFB it is, so have started charge on normal 12v mode

Many thanks Eric

Well after all that I put it on charge and after 5 mins the green led fully charged came on.

I had red lead connected to poss and black to ground

Voltage was 12.87

Reason I put it on charge was due to fordpass app kept telling me it was in energy saving mode to preserve battery

Can't figure out why if battery fully charged.

Maybe it just needed that 5 mins worth of juice to stop the message because app not reporting energy saving mode now

Lol, most of us are when it comes to battery issues with current vehicles (not just Ford). Voltage seems fine now (see chart).

Never bothered with Ford Pass so can't comment on that. Don't know how long you've lurked in the background before joining, but you'll find loads of threads on here about all sorts of weird issues caused by minor voltage drops. The standard "intelligent" charging systems these days only charge to 80% SOC.

I had a 2018 ST Line for 5 years previously and kept an eye on battery voltage, giving it a top up whenever the voltage dropped, or when an issue occurred such as "systems off to save battery" message.

If your battery is the original it may be getting near replacement, though it appears fine from what you say. Some people are replacing batteries at 4 years only to find problems persist, and I got the "systems off" message when I'd had my current car only a few months from new. So I'd just keep an eye on it for now.

Well many thanks indeed Eric for taking the time to explain everything, it looks like I should just leave it all be for now, and tbh the Ford Pass app these days seems pretty worthless so I will ignore it.

Thanks again. really appreciate your help
