MK7 Fiesta Glow plugs

Featured Replies

HI All

I have a 2011 fiesta with very poor running when cold. I removed glow plugs and tested them and they are all OK.

so checked the glow plug fuse and relay and both tested out OK.

put a meter in glow plug wire on top of one of plugs and i,m not getting any power to the plugs when engine cold on first start up

Has anyone got any ideas

Thanks

Ian

Can you check wire continuity from fuse to 1st glowplug.

What resistances did you get on the glowplugs? Needs to be low ie 2 to 6 Ohms Is good.

If there is a transition block somewhere between fuse and 1st glowplug,  pay particular attention to it - they can often corrode and overheat leading to a high resistance joint.

the continuity between relay and glow plugs is good

then you first put ignition on when engine cold glow plug light comes on but the relay is not pulling in

any one know what tells relay to pull in and power up glow plugs

Here is a link to my Google drive with the full Ford schematics for the 2012 Fiesta. I expect it to be very similar to yours.

How do you know relay is good?

It has good manners and polite behavior 🤣

I'd actually just replace it with a new one, just to be sure.

Maybe time for it to pass the baton...

Does your external temp sensor work correctly?

That's a very good question. 👍

i,m confused in the fuse box by battery the relay marked with curly wire supposed to be glow plugs , when i pull it out is stops the heated front windscreen working

i test relays by putting multi meter between the switch connections to check continuity then put power down coil connections with power probe to energize and activate relay

anyone know what the two relays located under the near side headlamp are for

i,ll check temp sensor out next

thanks

I think it's this one for Mk7.  Bolted somewhere on the chassis.
