Tyre sealant/repair kit/compressor

Featured Replies

I've just picked up a 'new' Mondeo est with no space for a spare, so I have the Ford-supplied repair kit.

I see on the interweb that there are water-based sealants that allegedly can just be rinsed out by a tyre fitter when he or she repairs the tyre.

1. Can I use one of these instead of the Ford-supplied gunk? (or maybe that bottle IS water-based)

2. Or would I be better off with a pressurised can of water-based Tyreweld for £6 (no need to use the compressor).

And then the web is full of people who have used rubber plugs (inserted with a bradawl etc) and say they last for the rest of the life of the tyre. 3. Should I buy one of these kits?.

If anyone has any experience of actually using any of the above, I'd be very grateful for your advice.

I've successfully used one of these that you insert from the outside, but it was only for just over a week because the pair of Tyres on that axle were almost due to be replaced anyway and it was coming into winter so I changed them slightly early after getting the puncture.
