Refuelling problems

Possible but I had a TDCi Fiesta of the previous generation and had no problems - nor with any other car, come to that.

However, I have to say, don't hold your breath - as I previously commented, she leaves home and gets back at hours which mean that I have only been in her car once in the two years she has had it when she has refuelled and she has never been in my car when I have.

If previous generation means Mk6 then they didn't have EasyFuel.

Although that doesn't necessarily mean fewer issues.  Had to bust open the filler on mine after the lock broke.

No, I wasn't implying that, simply that I have never had problems before, without so-called EasyFuel, and I have tried every position in the Fiesta manual and the Kama Sutra with the current car and have the same problem.

For me, it feels like Ford fixed a problem that didn't exist and created another problem - for me at least. One of my first posts on here since getting this car was asking where the fuel cap was and my concern that somebody might interfere with the fuel inlet - either siphoning my fuel or sticking something in there. I don't remember the exact words I got in response but it was along the lines of it not being possible to interfere with it and as I have just proven to myself by putting two feet of endoscope cable down there by simply pushing the flap (or whatever it is supposed to be) open with my finger, I think that my concerns were warranted.

I don't exactly live in an inner city (I live in a rural area) but I have had previous cars vandalised whilst parked, once on a university campus, so I would have liked to have had a fuel cap I could lock.

I'm sure everybody is bored with this but it's still doing my head in.

Not having got very far with the endoscope I bought and actually sending it back because it had a couple of faults, I wanted to try again so had to buy a cheap thing off eBay which attaches to a phone.

As I mentioned previously, I had difficulty manoeuvring the one I had earlier - it was quite rigid and there seemed to be a bend that I couldn't get around. Up until that point, it just seemed like white plastic tube with what could have been a sensor of some kind.

The cheap eBay one is more flexible and after a bit of pushing, pulling, twisting and jiggling, I think it got a bit further and suddenly I could see what must be the reflections of the LEDs off something shiny.

I have no idea what this could be as the video is so messed up with one thing or another but I'd be interested to know if anybody had any idea what shiny things there might be down there.

There are attachments to the endoscope - a magnet and a hook - but I'm a bit worried about them coming off and making the problem worse. However, I have a nice bit of narrow hose that I bought for a project which is no longer needed and is just the right length - I have thought about attaching it to a vacuum cleaner to see if I can suck any blockage out.

Anyway, I uploaded the video but I would be pleasantly surprised if anybody can make head or tail of it.

It is broken if you can open it with your fingers or pour anything past the EasyFuel system when closed.  Perhaps your girlfriend's is broken as well.

I can see why you're frustrated with it, but personally the EasyFuel is one of the main things I missed from Fords when I went back to VW.  As a concept it works well.

The tubes are made of metal so that explains the reflections.  I can't work out whether there's an obstruction in that video or not.  There may be an anti syphon device down there (just a bar welded across the pipe) but having had a look at a couple on eBay, I can't see any external evidence of welds on that pipe.  Just one where the mounting bracket goes.

I was a bit hasty saying that my girlfriend's is the same as mine because on closer inspection, hers will not open without the little levers at the side being pushed - mine opens on its own.

Actually, hearing of the anti-siphoning device has reassured me that I probably won't do any damage by putting a narrow hose down there to see if I can suck anything out with it.

Oh, well, that didn't yield anything!

Well, this is weird!

Having stuck two endoscopes and a vacuum hose down the fuel pipe and found nothing, I had to get some diesel yesterday - at my least favourite Tesco station - and had tremors anticipating standing there looking like a chump whilst the fuel trickled into my tank at a rate of 10ml per minute. The pump I had used previously had been the only one available but yesterday, there was another one so I targeted that one.

Having done the Clubcard/Debit Card thing, I casually put the nozzle in paying no attention to angle, depth or wind direction and pulled the trigger and felt the satisfying light vibration of diesel flowing into my tank and by the time I looked at the fuel counter, there was almost a tenner's worth!

Whoo-hoo! I thought, I'll treat myself to twenty quid's worth!

I don't know if something which had been causing an obstruction had been dislodged or what. I know that it hadn't just been a problem with one pump because I'd had a worse situation at a Tesco pump at a different station entirely.

As far as diagnostics is concerned, there are few things worse than a problem which solves itself without explanation but for the time being, I'll take the W!

If I don't come back to this thread, thanks for all the input!

Thanks for the update - always good to hear the end of a story ...if this is the end 😄

Maybe you had some kind of airlock before, but it's resolved? Who knows 🤓

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but the problem came back not long after my last post but I couldn't bear to talk about it. Some pumps seem to work, others do not but I have found that the pumps that do work are probably faulty because I inevitably overfill when I am watching the gauge on the pump (with amazement!).

A few days ago, I needed to fill my tank from almost empty and went to a garage that I have never used before and it took about 15 painfully laborious minutes.

I actually start to feel anxious whenever I need to refuel.

Change your car. Problem solved.
